Custard apple (annona reticulata) is also called "Bullock's heart" or Bull's Heart, because of its resemblance to a bull's heart.
Some other common names for custard apple are: mamón (Cuba), anona, anona colorada (México), corazón (Venezuela), anón pelón (Colombia), and araticum-do-mato (Brazil).
When ripe, the texture is creamy and thick, like cheesecake, and the flavor is sweet with a subtle hint of berries.
It's grown here in South Florida and is now in season.
