Since the end of 2019, we have been using 100% planet friendly packaging for all of our fresh fruit boxes. Fresh fruit is probably one of the most difficult things in the world to ship because not only does it ripen in transit, most fruits are also super soft and fragile. It's very important to protect the fruit while still allowing it to "breathe". Here's a breakdown of how we safely ship you fruit to keep you healthy while also prioritizing the health of our planet.
    Biodegradeable "Pillows"
We switched from using styrofoam fruit protectors which take hundreds of years to break down to hand made "pillows" made from tissue paper and shredded wood. Not only do these pillows quickly break down in your compost, but you can also use the shredded wood as an awesome mulch for your plants which naturally keeps the weeds down. Win win win!
    Recyclable, Biodegradable, and Reusable Boxes
Cardboard is naturally a compostable material, but we also specially designed these boxes to be extra thick to withstand any roughing around they might get in transit as well as using a custom made hole puncher to make air holes in each box for the fruit to breathe. This is especially exciting for us because we used to hand drill every single hole by hand!
    Water Activated Paper Tape
Kraft paper tape is completely recyclable and biodegradable. It's basically just strong paper with a starch-based adhesive that gets sticky when activated with water. We have tape machines that cut the perfect length for each box so that we don't use more tape than needed. Although it is biodegradable, the tape is super strong and will hold a seal no matter the weather condition. This was an awesome switch from regular petroleum based tape that we used to use, plus this tape has fun little tropical fruits on it!
