Star appleΒ (aka caimito) is named after the star shape found inside the pulp when you cut it in half (around its equator).
It is also called milk fruit for its milky looking juices that leak out of the fruit when it is cut open
In Sierra Leone the fruit is called Bobi wata or breast milk fruit. In Vietnamese it is called VΓΊ sα»―a which translates to breast milk.
Caimito is native to the Isthmus of Panama. It has spread to the Greater Antilles and the West Indies and is now grown throughout the tropics, including Southeast Asia.
TheΒ star appleΒ we offer is grown in South Florida.
