Lulo also known as Naranjilla is back in season.
This fruit is indigenous to the mountainous regions of Colombia and Ecuador, where it was first recorded in the 17th century.
The name naranjilla means "small orange" and the fruit tastes sort of like a sour orange, with a strong emphasis on sour.
This fruit is commonly juiced and made into a sweet beverage with sugar, like its relative tree tomato.
Both Lulo and Tamarillo are in the Solanaceae (night shade) family and look similar on the inside, but they taste different.
Tree tomato has a more sweet and tangy flavor, and the variety of lulo we offer has a more sour flavor.
