Jaboticaba (plinia cauliflora) is a unique tropical fruit that grows directly on the bark of the tree.
It is native to Brazil, and the name jaboticaba comes from the Tupian language, meaning “a place where tortoises are found".
Jaboticaba trees are slow-growing and prefer more acidic soil. They can fruit 5 to 6 times a year in Brazil, where they grow natively, but our soil is naturally more alkaline here, so our trees typically fruit 1 to 3 times per year.
The fruit resembles a grape which is why it is sometimes referred to as a Brazilian grape. The flavor is tangy and sweet, like a ginger-flavored blueberry.
It is typically eaten fresh shortly after it is picked because it gets overripe in only a few days.
The seasons are very brief, so preserving this fruit is essential for fighting food waste and enjoying it at any time. We currently offer jaboticaba jelly and freeze-dried jaboticaba.
Jaboticaba is packed with antioxidants and has numerous health benefits that can help protect the body against many preventable diseases.
