Growing turmeric is so simple and fun.
You can order turmeric from our site and use a few nubs (rhizomes) to start growing your own.
Add some mulch to these plants a few times to build nutrients in the soil.
Turmeric grows best outside in zones 8 and higher. They like full sun with partial afternoon shade.
If you live in a lower growing zone, you can grow it in a pot and bring it indoors near a window in the winter.
The rhizomes will be ready to harvest 9 to 10 months after planting. The best indicator for when they're ready to harvest is when their green foliage turns brown.
Here's a photo of the turmeric my aunt grew indoors in Mt Shasta California this winter. She got the turmeric rhizomes from us last spring.
Curcumin is a compound found in turmeric. It's a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis.
Consume your turmeric with coconut milk and black pepper for better blood stream assimilation of curcumin.
