Snake fruit (also known as Salak, Salacca zalacca, salacca salacca) has an outer shell that looks and feels a lot like snake skin (hence the name).
Peel away its scales to reveal what looks like giant garlic cloves inside. The pale yellow fleshed cloves are the part you eat.
The texture is crunchy and sort of dry with a hint of juiciness like an apple.
The flavor is similar to pineapple and jackfruit with hints of bitterness. Inside the large cloves is typically one medium-sized brown seed.
It grows on a palm with many sharp spikes and needs tropical conditions to thrive.
Hurry! We only have a very small harvest available.
Snake fruit is ready to eat as soon as it is picked and should be consumed quickly after you get your box.
