The first time we tried this unique fruit was in Malaysia in 2018. We walked past a street vendor selling them and we immediately had to try it.
Although the flavor is mild, it is surprisingly satisfying to eat and I can imagine great chefs could make some unique recipes with it.
Ice Apple comes from the Borassus Palm which is native to the Indian subcontinent (especially in South India) and Southeast Asia. The tree can grow up to 100 feet high which makes it extremely difficult to harvest.
We are excited to offer this unique fruit to you and hope it either brings you a taste of home or a brand new fruit tasting experience.
*Make sure to thaw completely before eating.
