Fresh Roselle, also known as Hibiscus is now in season!
The flower matures into a bright red cup-like structure called a calyx. The color and tart taste of the calyces makes them a good replacement for cranberries.
They are ready to eat as soon as you receive them! Use or preserve them right away.
Hibiscus is great in smoothies, teas, and jams.
If you want to use the calyces in smoothies, simply remove them from the seed pod and use them either fresh or frozen. To make tea with them, remove the seed pod in the middle and dry the remaining calyx by laying it out on a flat, dry surface or using a dehydrator.
