Canistel (also known as eggfruit) is a very rich and decadent fruit. Some say it is an acquired taste thanks to it's wide range of flavors.
Eggfruit is creamy, sweet, but sometimes has a hint of savory. Ripe canistel is often compared to cheesecake.
It is native to Cental America and northern South America. The eggfruit we offer is grown in South Florida.
Make sure your eggfruit is soft enough to peel open with your hands for optimal enjoyment. If eaten unripe, it is a bit chalky. When it is fully ripe, it will be creamy.
Important Note: Canistel varieties come in many different shapes and sizes. There's long and skinny, short and fat, as big as your head, as small as a tangerine, and everything in between.
The “Small Box” will generally contain smaller pieces of fruit and the “Large Box” will generally contain larger pieces of fruit.
