Description

Origin: Achachairú originated in Bolivia. It was renamed in Australia as Achacha (last three letters removed) for convenient pronunciation. It's in the same genus as mangosteen, gamboge, and imbe (garcinia) and has very similar visual and texture characteristics to the fruits in its genus. It looks like an imbe on the outside and a mangosteen on the inside.

Flavor Profile: The flavor is the perfect balance of sour and sweet. It's very flavorful but not overwhelmingly sour. If you've ever eaten a mangosteen and a gamboge, it sits somewhere in between those on the flavor/sour scale. Many people say it tastes like lemonade.

Achacha fruit is picked tree ripened. It arrives ripe and ready to eat.  Please be sure to eat your Achachairú immediately upon arrival!

How To Eat: Pinch or cut off the outer shell, and consume the beautiful white flesh inside. The seeds should not be consumed.

First come first serve, any orders that can't be shipped this season will be reserved for next season.

The total weight of each box varies depending on the size, shape, and mass of the fruit:

  • Small Box contains: 3 pounds
  • Large Box contains: up to 7-10 pounds

We ALWAYS recommend ordering a LARGE BOX for the best value, when compared to a Small Box. Because shipping, handling, and delivery are so expensive per package, the Large Box will contain more fruit and ultimately a better value.

The achacha is such a delicious fruit. My eight year old wanted to keep eating them. She said "they're pretty much like candy". The taste is exquisite, like a sweet tropical citrus that hits taste buds you forgot were there and leaves a hydrating refreshing after taste. What a treat!

Incredible fruit! Tastes like the best mango you've ever had and then turned up a notch even further! I could eat these everyday for the rest of my life and never tire of them. Thanks again!

I love all garcinia fruits. Achacha has a softer, more pillowy texture than mangosteen and has a unique flavor that keeps changing from sweet to sour. It kind of reminds me of lemonade as a whole, but more complex. I'll definitely order more next year!

Absolutely delicious!! Floral, sweet, sour, all rolled in one. It is like if you took the floralness of a mangosteen and gave it just enough acid to have complex depth and body, with a hint of sourness at the end. We went through the entire box in one sitting - if only these were in season more regularly.

Achacha (Achachairú)

Picked up a large box of these and was very pleased with them, as I have never heard/seen these before. They had a very nice citrusy flavor, with a pleasant blend of sweet and sour.

Overall, the fruit was well worth the order, and I look forward to ordering again. The fruit was juicy and delicious. Shipping and unpacking were both very easy. The one aspect of the order that was less than 5 star was the fact that the fruit was extremely ripe when received. This limited enjoyment of the fruit to only a few days, and my wife and I could not finish all the fruit before it spoiled.

Store owner replied: Oh No! So sorry you couldn't eat them fast enough! Achacha is a great candidate for freezing or making into jelly if you don't think you can eat them quick enough! You can skin them and put them in a freezer safe bag.

This is really good, it's a unique taste, and I wish I had ordered more :) Definitely worth trying and then savoring :)

Really nice flavor in these little guys - so glad to finally get some of them. I’ve been wanting to try them for a couple years, but they are hard to track down where I am. They are not as sweet as a purple mangosteen, and the flavor is a bit more complex, with some acidic - almost citrusy - notes. Not as sour as the lemon mangosteen (gamboge). Like the gamboge, the pith is edible after removing the outer skin, though it isn’t as tasty as gamboge pith and it has a hint of bitterness in it. Worth the considerable cost :)
