Tropical Persimmon season is about to peak! We have a lot left on the trees still developing, but many are starting to ripen.
This rare variety is not commercially grown. We grow our tropical persimmons on our small farm in South Florida.
If you see any spots on the skin it's because they are unsprayed, unwaxed and unwashed. We pick them straight from the tree and pack them within the same hour they are picked. This variety of persimmon in particular is very heat tolerant which is why it grows so abundantly here in our subtropic 10b climate zone.
Here are the different ripening stages of tropical persimmons. The top is unripe and the bottom is ripe and ready to eat. You MUST wait until this variety is completely soft before eating. You cannot eat it at any of the middle ripening stages.
