Description
Origin: Gros Michel Bananas entered the historical record in the 1830s when a French planter, Jean Pouyat, noticed the plant growing on the Caribbean island of Martinique. Locally, it became known as the Martinique banana. It spread through the Caribbean and beyond. This variety used to be grown commercially but now is extremely rare and difficult to find. We grow Gros Michel extremely small scale here in Florida using permaculture methods which means that they may not be super large and thick like what you may be used to if you remember eating this variety back when it was available in stores.
Flavor Profile: This banana may be compared to a Cavendish in flavor, though the history makes this a very popular banana amongst fruit lovers!
How To Eat: Ensure you are ripening bananas at 70 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Always go by softness and easiness to peel. They may or may not have spots when they are ready.
First come first serve, any orders that can't be shipped this season will be reserved for next season.
The total weight of each box varies depending on the size, shape, and mass of the fruit:
- One Fruit contains 1 piece of fruit (sizing varies)
- Small Box contains up to 3-5 pounds
- Large Box contains up to 8-10 pounds
- Extra Large Box contains up to 16-20 pounds
- Bulk Box contains up to 34-40 pounds
We ALWAYS recommend ordering a LARGE BOX for the best value, when compared to a Small Box. Because shipping, handling, and delivery are so expensive per package, the Large Box will contain more fruit and ultimately a better value.

Tasting a Gros Michel has been a childhood dream of mine. I always believed it was biologically extinct—until I found this place. The bananas I received were healthy, full-sized, and beautiful. Due to cold weather and a busy work schedule, I only recently began ripening them—but the wait was absolutely worth it. I shared them with all my friends and even gave each person a regular Cavendish banana for comparison. The universal reaction was: "When you go back to the regular banana, you do realize just how superior Gros Michel is." The ripe Gros Michel is soft, rich, and incredibly smooth—almost like a giant piece of naturally sweet (but low-sugar) frosting. And no throat irritation like with some other bananas! On the technical side: The packaging was fully eco-friendly. The soft base ensures the bananas aren’t bruised or blackened during ripening. As for ripening—don’t be scared by how firm and green they are upon arrival. Just place them in a paper bag with other ripe fruit, and give them a few days. They’ll turn yellow surprisingly fast!

It took a lot of effort to get the Gros Michel bananas perfectly ripe, but it was worth the effort. They are much smaller than Cavendish bananas, but have a more concentrated flavor. They are very creamy, they have a strong scent like banana candy, and a similarly sweet flavor. I ate one, and turned the others into the best banana ice cream I've ever had. Two mashed, ripe Gros Michel bananas, Ben & Jerry's sweet cream base with tempered eggs. It was amazing. I would opt for one of the boxes for the best value.
We heard about the history of the Gros Michel and were excited to hear that they are not gone from the world.! Miami Fruit can bring a lost flavor back!! Our group of Pennsylvania teachers chipped in to have a historical banana party. Our “bunch” found the experience a”peel”ing !!
When I found out that the Cavendish bananas that I grew up eating weren't the same bananas that my Dad grew up eating...I was intrigued! It became a bit of an obsession, so much so that I bought a "Fat Michael" banana seedling on Ebay and tried to grow it here in Southern California. Years later that tree is 7 feet high but hasn't born fruit. So cut to the chase, I had seen Miami Fruit in my internet sleuthing a while ago and eventually I broke down and indulged myself on the small Gros Michel box! They are great! Needless to say, I am savoring these blasts from the past at each stage of their ripening. Next order: Cacao!

My child had recently learned about the Panama disease wiping out most of the gros michel variety, so we were excited to get to try these “old” bananas! They arrived completely green so it took several days for any of them to ripen enough to eat. They tasted okay when they were yellow, but I recommend waiting until they are really ripe like the picture. They taste much better and don’t get mushy like regular grocery store cavendish bananas do.

I have been enjoying my Gros Michel bananas even more than I imagined. It was intriguing to learn that this variety, our mainstay banana, until the Mid Century, was not completely wiped out. I couldn’t wait to purchase and compare the flavor and texture with the common bananas that we have today. The Gros Michel was definitely tastier, denser, creamier, and the color inside was strikingly more golden. There was much more banana flavor, that I would describe as sweet and a little tangy. The regular banana, by comparison, had whiter flesh, and was less dense or creamy. The flavor is basically sweet, with no noticeable perception of tanginess. I shared some of these special bananas with several curious and amused friends. All reported similar positive findings for taste and texture. My order was shipped perfectly, and on time. I especially appreciated that the bananas didn’t all ripen at the same time! I will definitely be ordering again from this outstanding market!

Our box got a little delayed, but the banana were extremely delicious and creamy. They’re about 1/2 the size of cavendish bananas me a great snack or addition to a smoothie. Would definitely order again.
When we discovered that the "Big Mike" banana was the lost banana of our grandparents' generation, we had to try it. I am so glad we did! This box from Miami Fruit was absolutely incredible and worth every dollar spent. It was such a great experience trying these out, and yes, they are WORLDS better than the traditional bananas in the grocery stores of today! Give them a shot, you won't be disappointed.
Tasty! You don't know what you are missing from the supermarket bananas until you bite into the Gros Michel. It came with two bunches. One was ready in a week, and the other took two weeks to be yellow and soft.
I ordered small and the box came in a great condition and all banana quality was supreme. I kept the bananas in the garage to make them ripe faster and they were amazing. Highly recommended!

The bananas arrived quickly, well packed, and the small box had plenty of them in there. I didn't think to weigh them. They were green and were slow to ripen but they lasted for a really long time. WAY LONGER than regular bananas. Like no comparison longer. Normal bananas have a short window of time that they are the best which is about a day and a half. We were enjoying them for several weeks and they were not going bad. They were much smaller than the name suggests. But they had a nice bright flavor that normal bananas don't have. It's a shame that they don't grow them much any more. Between longer shelf life and better flavor they are superior to the store bananas. Definitely worth a try if you are a banana person.
They all came unripe and perfectly packaged for protection and shipping. Not sure how they did it but we had a whole box of bananas and a daily supply of ones that ripened. Not too quick and not too slow.
I was surprised by how good the packaging was because I was a little unsure on how bananas would be sent safely but it was amazing. The bananas ripened quickly when storing them properly and they tasted unlike any other banana I’ve had :) definitely going to order more soon
I recommend buying a regular Cavendish banana (from the store, like a normie) to compare with these so you can really see the difference! It is nice to taste a piece of history with this banana (and to actually get the “banana candy” flavor), and it makes a killer banana cream pie and banana bread (pictured). Maybe a good party favor or corporate gift?

Great! We had a banana tasting party to compare Gros Michels to the regular Cavendish. The Gros Michels were smaller and tasted like more concentrated banana. The box arrived about a week and a half after ordering. One bunch was ready to eat after about 3 days the the second batch took another week or so to fully ripen
Good bananas. I'm glad to find a tropical fruit supplier that has quality on par with a farmers market. Would recommend a variety box over single cultivar. I'm honestly smitten with Miami Fruit. The stickers and guidebook that come with each order put them over the top. Tip top.

I don't generally like bananas, but I had always wanted to try the Gros Michel banana after hearing stories that they tasted different than current bananas (more like what we think of when we eat banana candy which I love). But I had heard you couldn't get those bananas anymore. Then I found Miami Fruit. I genuinely enjoyed a banana for the first time in my life. These were so good. Everyone that tried them loved them. A word of warning though - the large box is a LOT of bananas. So be prepared to give them away and make some banana bread.
Best bananas I’ve ever had! I was worried that these would all ripen at once and I’d have to rush to eat or freeze, but these ripened bunch by bunch over a month! I’m down to my last bunch and am ready to reorder!
My gros Michel arrived in 2 days and the bananas looks really good. It would be best when it is harvested a little more mature so it will ripen a little faster. It’s slowly ripening which is good. Bulk box is a great deal especially if harvested mature. Good tasting bananas and good flavor

They were good unfortunately I got Covid around when I ordered these so I could barely taste them til most of them were gone. But once my taste did comeback I had like 2 and they were good.
Absolutely fantastic bananas! I'd always wanted to try these and they were just as good as I'd hoped. I made all my friends compare a Cavendish to a Gros Michel (both pictured). The fruits arrived in great condition, and ripened beautifully over the next few weeks. I absolutely recommend trying these.

They were good unfortunately I got Covid around when I ordered these so I could barely taste them til most of them were gone. But once my taste did comeback I had like 2 and they were good.
Absolutely fantastic bananas! I'd always wanted to try these and they were just as good as I'd hoped. I made all my friends compare a Cavendish to a Gros Michel (both pictured). The fruits arrived in great condition, and ripened beautifully over the next few weeks. I absolutely recommend trying these.

These bananas made the best banana pudding. Everyone was raving about how tasty and delicious it was. Most have never tasted the original banana and all were impressed.
