Your pre-order holds your place in line on our wait list. When Eggfruit comes into season and is ready to harvest from the trees, you will receive your order as soon as possible.***
Important Info: Canistel varieties come in many different shapes and sizes. There's long and skinny, short and fat, as big as your head, as small as a tangerine, and everything in between. The “Small Box” will generally contain smaller pieces of fruit and the “Large Box” will generally contain larger pieces of fruit.
Origin: Canistel is native to Mexico and Central America. The Eggfruit we offer is grown in South Florida.
Flavor Profile: The Canistel fruit, also known as Eggfruit or Yellow Sapote has a dense, cake-like texture similar to the yolk of a hard-boiled egg.
How To Eat: Eggfruit may need time to ripen after delivery. Ripen at room temperature of 70 degrees or above for optimal consumption. Eggfruit is ready to eat once it is very soft all over, so much so, that you can easily cut it or pull it apart with your hands. Eggfruit may be enjoyed on its own, added to a cake, or smoothie.
First come first serve, any orders that can't be shipped this season will be reserved for next season.
The total weight of each box varies depending on the size, shape, and mass of the fruit:
- One Fruit contains one piece of fruit (sizing varies)
- Small Box contains up to 3-5 pounds
- Large Box contains up to 8-10 pounds
- Extra Large Box contains up to 16-20 pounds
We ALWAYS recommend ordering a LARGE BOX for the best value, when compared to a Small Box. Because shipping, handling, and delivery are so expensive per package, the Large Box will contain more fruit and ultimately a better value.

Wonderful quality and taste!!
This is one of my new favorite fruits! The texture is that of a rich custard combined with a soft and not too sweet flavor with squash like qualities. Highly recommend this one!

I was pleasantly surprised at how great this fruit tasted. I looked up videos on how others have best enjoyed it and tried it in a smoothie and it was amazing. I also looked into its nutritional value and it’s astounding. I’m learning so much about all these fruits and how they are helping my body heal and making my tastebuds oh so happy. 🥰
A really fun fruit! Flavor a bit like mamey, and quite a bit like a baked sweet potato or delicata. Definitely has a background eggy flavor too, and medium-boiled yolk texture, which was very satisfying to use in pastries. Arrived really well, and ripened quickly.
Big beautiful creamy sweet delicious egg fruit I will order them again and again.
The fruit were well packed and I got enough that ripened over time so I was able to try them multiple times. For me the flavor wasn't great, I liked the texture though as it was like thick frosting. If I were to get these again I would definitely try it in some dessert recipes.
I received my egg fruit. The box was nicely packed and secured. I ordered the small box. I'm very pleased with my order. Now, I just have to wait for fruit to ripened.
I buy a large box of these every season — because they make the most incredible creamy smoothies!! What a flavor. Nothing says summer like the bright marigold color of this smoothie on my balcony. I just blend together frozen egg fruit, frozen banana, and almond milk and sip it with in the sun with a book. (Mostly I let them ripen and then scoop them out into containers for my freezer — I prefer the texture better frozen+blended, but my friends like them raw too.)

It was so delicious! It had a thick, cake-like texture and the taste resembled that of cheesecake. Unfortunately, I learned that I'm allergic to it (and have been allergic to avocado... tragedies). But, I offered the rest to my friends and they all absolutely loved it, too! So delicious and so versatile.

I absolutely LOVED this small canistel (eggfruit) box. This was my first experience with this particular fruit, and I was pleasantly surprised at A) how versatile it is to use and B) the state and quality in which it arrived. I received my box right around Christmas and the fruits were still pretty firm, not overly ripe. By about New Year's they had softened and were ready for use in all sorts of things. My favorite use was a simple custard - I combined raw eggfruit with some passionfruit pulp and fresh lime to make a perfect and very simple dessert. It was great for holiday hosting, and was a refreshing break from the usual pies and cakes we see this time of year. I would hands-down purchase this again when eggfruit is back in season. It's a great winter treat and makes an amazing egg-free alternative to use in certain kitchen projects.

I love the creamy sweet fruit. It adds a nice flavor and texture to my fruit bowl. I mixed it with yellow dragon fruit as base for my bowl I made a “cheesecake” with the fruit it was really good. Gluten free vegan and all fruit based recipe. It ripened well. I store it in the fridge once it was ripe. I wish this was a year around fruit

I had been wanting to try canistel for years and finally did thanks to Miami Fruit! It always arrives in great condition (not my first time placing an order) and since they ripened closer to the same time, I got to freeze a lot to use in smoothies and desserts. Overall seems expensive but you are guaranteed the quality of the fruit - worth it.

I love canistel, and these did not disappoint!
This was my first time trying this fruit. It tasted a little like sugary sweet potato mixed with a hint of corn and a few other nuanced flavors. Very rich and decadent texture. I waited to eat it when it was very soft. It was not dry like I expected. Very creamy almost like avocado. Loved it! Definitely recommend trying this one. There was a problem with two of the fruits and Miamifruit took care of it quickly.

We ordered a large box of egg fruit and they were so good we wound up ordering another large box 2 weeks later. We were introduced to egg fruit many years ago when we lived in Florida and loved them. Unfortunately, they are not available for sale in northern markets. Yes, it’s an expensive treat and yes we did pay for overnight shipping but each and every fruit was perfect. They needed a few days at room temperature to fully ripen and we were able to enjoy one or two delicious fruits daily. The consistency is soft and slightly creamy like a hard boiled egg yolk and the flavor is sweet and custard-like. As far as we are concerned it tastes like no other fruit.
Yummy, I mixed these eggfruit and persimmons in a blender and made popcycles. Yummy healthy treat!
