Description
Origin: Abiu, also called Pouteria Caimito is a tropical fruit that originates in the Amazonian region of South America. This fruit is grown in small quantities here in South Florida.
Flavor Profile: Abiu has a creamy and jelly-like texture and its taste is similar to a sweet caramel custard.
How To Eat: When ripe, it has smooth, bright yellow skin and contains one to four seeds. The inside of the fruit is translucent and white. Bite the tip off and suck out the sweet juices or cut in half and scoop out with a spoon.
First come first serve, any orders that can't be shipped this season will be reserved for next season.
The total weight of the box varies depending on the size, shape, and mass of the fruit:
- One Fruit contains: 1 Fruit (sizing varies)
- A One Pound Box contains: one pound
- A Small Box contains: up to 3-5 pounds
- A Large Box contains: up to 8-10 pounds
We ALWAYS recommend ordering a LARGE BOX for the best value, when compared to a Small Box. Because shipping, handling, and delivery are so expensive per package, the Large Box will contain more fruit and ultimately a better value.

Ripe and ready to eat! A few were cracked opened during shipping but those just got consumed first! I referred to the flavor as creme brulee and then heard "flan" as a description- yes! Tastes like flan even though it's a healthy fruit. Yum. Not super sweet, just sort of mildly sweet with the taste of flan. A very good fruit. Great for individual servings (pit is large, easy to remove, each fruit has 1-3 pits). No other seeds, smooth texture.
New to abiu, was delighted to try one in a variety box and that led me to an order of just abiu. It does taste like vanilla custard, and when cold maybe even like a chilled crème brulee. It's not an overly sweet fruit despite this comparison; sweet enough for dessert but light enough for a morning snack. (I found it's a great replacement for yogurt; a little sweet, very satisfying and comes in its own container when you cut the top off and spoon out the fruity-fruit inside.) Color is also custardy in appearance. Very delicious - ripe when they ship so don't wait to eat them!
Maravilhoso abiu chegou tao fresco, delicioso e enorme. Eu tinha uma arvore na minha casa no Brasil entao voltaram muitas lembrancas boas!!! Absolutely delicious and fresh. I really miss eating abiu, it's been over 20 years since I've had it. Amazing you guys!! Thank you so much. Will purchase again for sure, also wanna try other fruits. Yall should offer yellow jaboticaba as well, it's another one I had in my backyard growing up in Brazil and I really miss it. ❤️
They just remind me like when I was in my country they are so good
This has been my favorite fruit I’ve tried in a long time. The texture was interesting, the outside of the fruit was almost latex-y to the touch. The fruit was transparent like lychee and like a firm jell-o. I’m excited to preorder again next season.

To be able to find this fruit in the US was amazing! ABIU tastes like vanilla and carmel mix. The fruit came perfectly packaged and ready to eat after a couple of days. I would have liked to see bigger size fruit but it didn’t take away from the flavor or quality.
