Description

The Imbe Tree (Garcinia livingstonei), also known as the African Mangosteen, is a small, tropical fruit tree that produces bright orange, sweet, and tangy fruit. Native to Africa, the Imbe tree is prized for its unique, juicy fruits that are about the size of a plum, with a flavor that combines sweetness with a citrus-like zing. This tree is an excellent addition for anyone looking to grow exotic, rare fruit.

Each Imbe Tree is sold in a 1-gallon pot and is currently 1 to 3 feet tall. Though small now, these trees are mature enough to be transplanted into the ground or a larger container, where they will thrive in warm, tropical or subtropical climates. The Imbe tree is known for its hardiness and adaptability, capable of growing in a variety of soil types and conditions. It also makes an excellent ornamental tree, with its glossy green leaves and vibrant fruit.

At maturity, the Imbe tree typically reaches 15 to 30 feet in height, though it can be pruned to remain smaller. It thrives in USDA zones 9-11 and prefers full sun. With proper care, it will reward you with an abundance of small, flavorful fruits that are perfect for fresh eating or making jams and jellies.
