Origin: Turmeric is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant that belongs to the ginger family Zingiberaceae, which is native to tropical South Asia. As many as 133 species of turmeric have been identified worldwide to date.
Flavor Profile: Turmeric is warm, earthy, bitter, and has a peppery spice. Has a mild fragrance slightly reminiscent of orange and ginger.
How To Eat: Turmeric arrives ready for consumption. It can be consumed raw by cutting or grating it up. This root can also be turned into a powder to use in dishes like curry! It also adds a nice dose of nutrients, color, and earthly flavor to smoothies.
Fun Fact: Known as one of the healthiest foods in the world, turmeric has many anti-inflammatory benefits.
Each box contains up to 7 different turmeric varieties, such as: white, red(looks more like a dark orange than actually red), orange, yellow, green, blue(aka black), and purple(aka blue) turmeric.
