Locally, it became known as the Martinique banana. It spread through the Caribbean and beyond. This variety used to be grown commercially but now is extremely rare and difficult to find.

This was surprisingly delicious. I was worried they might be tough and leathery, but the texture was pleasant and the flavor was better than any description I’d heard.
